Movie #26 – The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - 118 min, cert 18.
Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is an FBI cadet who is sent to interview notorious serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) in his prison cell to try and gain some insight into the case of another serial killer who is currently at large.
Based on the book by Thomas Harris, the plot is very good and the suspense is kept up throughout the entire film. Foster is also very good in her performance as the cadet desperately trying to impress her superiors. But Hopkins is in a class of his own as the chilling Lecter. He completely dominates every scene he is in, even when he’s trussed up in full body restraints and all you can see are his eyes. It’s a performance that has gone down in cinema history as one of the all-time greats, and quite rightly so.
Score – it has to be the full 10/10, and I think I’ll place it at number 5 in my top ten.
