Movie #27 – Toy Story 3 (2010) - 103 min, cert U.
Years have passed since the last movie. Andy has grown up and is about to head off to college, while Woody, Buzz and the other toys gather dust in a toy chest. Before Andy leaves he has a clear out of his room and bags up all his old toys for storage in the attic. The bag gets mixed in with the trash and the toys, assuming that they are being thrown out, escape to the local day care centre. There they find themselves under the control of a tyrannical toy, determined to make life miserable for them.
Of all the 27 movie experiences I’ve had so far, this was probably the most enjoyable. Pixar have this genre down to a fine art now, and you know that whatever they put out is going to be worth seeing. The plot is fun and exciting, the old characters are warm and familiar, while the new ones are just as interesting. It has tense moments and sad moments, and lots of laugh out loud moments. It first watched it with my kids at the cinema when it came out, and it made me feel like a kid myself for the duration of the film.
Score – it has to be 10/10.
